For those that aren't aware, Foursquare is a geo-location service that has a clever play on adding points etc for "checking in" to various locations.
I started using it around Xmas time, because of the hype. I thought I would give it a crack and see how it went.
It didn't take long for me to be concerned about the potential implications of this service. I was in Martinborough (NZ) with my family for the week merrily checking in to cafes, bars..wineries.. anything I could really. That was when I struck me that I was being naive about the intentions of people... what if some criminal low life was watching Foursquare for a chance to do over my house....?
This post talks to a similar viewpoint. Clearly I am not alone. PleaseRobMe is a site set up specifically to educate people on the potential implications of all of this social sharing.
So I stopped. Despite even more hype about it since, I can't see myself being swayed on this point. As a guy who has a full immersion strategy for social...this is a bridge to far....
I don't want to be one of those (heaps) of people doing social for Social's sake...
